The Promising Gorilla Learn the important value of keeping your promises! edition by Efrat Haddi Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Efrat Haddi once again places before the public (especially aimed at children from the ages of 3 to 8) a book that simultaneously entertains and teaches. Haddi works with children in a democratic school where democracy is both a goal and a method of instruction. Her belief is that a democratic education brings democratic values such as justice, respect and trust to education, and includes self-determination within a community of equals. In this book she is joined by illustrator Abira Das once again, a sure sign that the message of the book will appeal to all children visually as well as intellectually.
`Rocky was a young gorilla who lived in Africa with his brother Andy and his sister Stacey. The young gorillas used to play with each other and with their best friends Rob and Sandy.' Rocky's problem is he makes promises to all his friends that he doesn't keep - such as promising to help his friend Andy gather gold stones at the bottom of the lake for his friend's collections, or collect flowers for Stacey's flower skirt, to show Rob how to roast bananas, to teach Sandy how to do the happy gorilla dance, but Rocky always finds a way not to keep his promises and his friends are angry. When Stacey promises to let Rocky play with her pink feather, Stacy gives the feather to a friend who wanted and that make s Rocky angry - allowing the lesson from his friends to come through loudly and clear Rocky learns how annoying it is for friends not to keep promises and so he make s up for it - he taught them the happy gorilla dance and everyone danced and jumped together until dawn.
As always Efrat Haddi's stories are entertaining and fun and carry fine moral and behavioral lessons for children. Grady Harp, December 14
Efrat Haddi is a superb writer. Her stories are heart-warming. They are designed to teach social skills in a child-friendly manner, in a way that is fun, but has an important message that kids need to learn. Abira Das illustrates her books and creates characters that are likable, animals that kids can identify with, animals that children look at and hope that all turns out well with them.
In this delightful book, older brother Rocky, a generally likable monkey, has a younger brother Andy, and a younger sister Stacey. One day, Rocky promises Andy to take him tomorrow to a lake to get a stone to fill his stone collection. But the next day, he said he needs to sleep and did not keep his promise. At another time, he promised Stacey to help her collect flowers, but he came up with an excuse and did not keep his promise. He did the same with some of his friends. They became angry and looked for a way to teach Rocky – like children reading the book need to learn – that he must keep his promise.
Children will be thrilled to learn what they do.
A second story is attached to this book “Alex’s Quest 3.” It is a nice adventure story written for youngsters. Alex finds a Genie and a book about a lost pyramid. The book is written in a strange ancient language that even the Genie does not understand. Children will enjoy finding out how Alex learns how to decipher the book and the unusual secret of the lost pyramid.
Great read for the reader who doesn't like to read. She zoomed through it. She also enjoyed it! Gorillas are fun!
Poor attempt to teach an important lesson to young children. Teaches getting even not using words to express feelings and emotions.
It's important to keep your promises and the author explains not only why, but a great idea to teach how. All the books by this author, including this one, teach valuable lessons with great stories and cute illustrations that help keep a child's attention as they read the book. This story is also great to read aloud to a child you love and share the valuable lesson inside.
super book
