I love this series. When I tried the first book (it was free), I loved it, and then bought 2nd and this 3rd book. They kept me excited and never a dull moment! There is no romance. It has so much adventure and friendship! Lots of interesting characters too, both good and evil. If you love fiction and adventure and magic, this is for you. It is nicely written, I can picture what the author is describing, and what is happening.Just one thing always bothering me is that these books end abruptly. It ends well but it ends with lots of questions still not answered. I guess this is the author's way of telling us there's more books coming on the way.

Silver Hill Catherine Cooper 9781906821746 Books Reviews
I know this series is written for children, but I love fantasy stories. I got the first book of the series as a free book. The promotion worked on me. I have purchased all of the books in the Jack Brenin series. For those of us who don't need sex to make a story enjoyable, this series is a fun, light, easy read.
Last year I read the first two books in this series. Even though they are written for children I enjoyed The Golden Acorn and Glassruhen Gate enough that I encouraged my sister to read them too. When I saw this latest book, Silver Hill I couldn't wait to see what was happening with Jack Brenin and his friends. I especially enjoy the adventures when they are raven boys. Not a long book but very enjoyable!
I'm on the 5th book now. This one had more than a couple... almost lapses in what was said in previous books. And there were just some editing errors for spelling & word placement, which is a pet peeve of mine.
Overall still a good book. And obviously I've continued on with the series ) But I'm glad these annoyances go away in the next book.
My daughter and I have read all three books and enjoyed them very much. I would recommend them for any child under fourteen or so, especially boys. The characters are fully drawn, the plot is original, and the story moves at a good clip. Jack is a terrific boy who handles huge scary mythic challenges and banal bullying with equal courage and determination. There were a few scenes that made me a bit teary-eyed!
Silve Hill is another fascinating sequel in the Golden Acorn series. It introduces
some new characters and magical things, like the Druid's dwindling doors. We meet the only remaining Dragonair plus a Draygull, known for their ability to be dragon sreechers. A previous villain, the former King of Annwn, shows up as the Big One. He was exacting his revenge on Annwn and the druids through the previously unknown fifth gate. We also discover the power of the Crystal Key, Caves of Eternal Rest
I loved the first two books in this series The Golden Acorn (The Adventures of Jack Brenin)and Glasruhen Gate (The Adventures of Jack Brenin), and waited impatiently for the 3rd book to be released. Fortunately, it did not disappoint! In fact, it made me want to stop reading, go back and re-read the first two books.
Nora's away in Annwyn, and Camelin is up to no good (surprise, surprise!). Jack is trying to juggle the demands of his 'real' life and still finding time to help Camelin and his other friends. In this book, we see Jack starting to grow up, live up to his potential, take charge, and make decisions (and stand by them). Camelin has determined to find Charkle's family, and one thing leads to another as only Camelin's mischief can.
This book returns all the same cast of characters, and we learn a bit more about them and their histories. Camelin has written a brief glossary of names and places which the author very graciously permitted him to append to the end of this story (along with some comments of his own). Quite honestly, I wish there had been a note to that effect at the beginning of the book, along with a link to the glossary of names, because there were times when I struggled to remember who was who or what had happened when.
Highly recommended for those who have read the first two books. If you haven't already read the first two books, they're highly recommended as well!
Note on formatting Excellent. I did not notice any issues whatsoever.
My children were very unhappy when I read the last few words of this book last night.
They really loved it and can't wait to hear more about Jack and Camilin's friendship and adventures.
While I have tried to take it slow, my kids begged me each night to read just one more chapter.
We have had many late nights...
I would recommend reading this to middle-aged children. My six year old hasn't the stamina, but enjoys the snuggle.
My other two are full of questions about the story, perhaps I could ask a few on their behalf?
They are also full of theories as to why things happen a certain way.
Thanks for taking time to write this heart warming story, enjoyed by my children (in South Africa).
...and hurry up with that fourth book, computer games and TV just dont do it anymore!!!!
Steve
